Ambulance driver arrested after pile-up
East Midlands ambulance service suspends employee after arrest on suspicion of drink-driving on 999 callAn ambulance driver on a 999 call was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a seven-vehicle pile-up in Nottinghamshire.Four people received minor injuries in the crash, with one treated for a suspected broken leg and another for a suspected fractured pelvis. A third person suffered whiplash.The 39-year-old driver was questioned and released on police bail until January, Nottinghamshire police said.East Midlands ambulance service said today the driver had been suspended and it had launched an internal inquiry into the collision, which happened on the A52 in Nottingham on Saturday evening.The ambulance was not carrying a patient at the time of the crash. The intended patient was already being cared for by a fast-response vehicle and was transported to hospital by another ambulance, the service said.Diane Lee, director of operations, said: "We sincerely regret the injuries and inconvenience caused to members of the public involved in this incident.
