Fresh tube delays as bags get caught in doors of new trains
Baggage bother as rolling stock debuts on Victoria line compounds problems caused by signal failures elsewhereLondon Underground services suffered fresh delays today after passengers' bags became caught in the doors of new trains. It was the eighth successive weekday that tube users were hit by disruption to their journeys.A Transport for London spokesman said: "Due to problems on a number of trains this morning, there were minor delays on the Victoria line."Two incidents were caused by passengers' bags getting caught in the doors of new trains."One old train had to be taken out of service with a door defect and another old train was temporarily withdrawn to have a window repaired."We apologise for the minor delays caused to some passengers' journeys by these problems, and we are working hard to rectify all of these issues."When new trains and signalling are introduced in tandem with old trains and signalling, we would always expect some initial problems."But we are not complacent and where faults have occurred on our new trains we are pushing our contractors hard to increase reliability as soon as possible."There were also delays today on the Jubilee, District and Hammersmith and City lines after several signal failures.Problems last week led to thousands of passengers having to be led along tracks, and disruption has continued every day this week.Disruption will worsen next week because of a strike by tube workers from 5pm on Tuesday in a dispute over job losses.Talks are taking place at conciliation service Acas in an attempt to avert the walkout.TransportRail transportLondonguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds
